Goose down or duck down, let's discover their differences!
Although geese and ducks are part of the same animal family, their downs are not identical. Thus, depending on their filling, our down comforters offer unique comfort.
So, between goose down duvets and duck down duvets, which one will you prefer?
What are the differences between duck down and goose down?
The biggest difference between duck down and goose down comes from swelling power of these downs.
Goose down or duck down: which has the best fill power?
The goose down has a higher swelling power. Indicated in CUIN, this is naturally more important than duck down.
What is fill power?
The swelling power of a down indicates its ability to keep you warm.
The greater the capacity of the down to store air, the greater its fill power will be. Thanks to this inimitable characteristic, heat is retained evenly and continuously. Used as a filling in our duvets, this allows you to sleep in soft and constant warmth.
How do you know the fill power of a down duvet?
Each down duvet has a label where the CUIN, unit of measurement for fill power, is indicated.
The more swelling power is higher, the more Down is capable of retaining air. Thermal insulation is therefore more important.
Example: Our goose down duvets offer a fill power of 700 cuin. They are therefore warmer than our duck down duvets which have a fill power of 650 cuin.
A warm and light duvet
The loftier the down, the warmer it is. However, the down comforters remain particularly light because it is the air retained by it which allows you to maintain pleasant warmth.
This filling is therefore particularly suitable for people looking for warmth and lightness.
Which duvet is the most affordable?
The goose down is rarer than duck down. This comes from the fact that goose farms are fewer in number than duck farms. It is therefore more difficult to obtain goose down.
In addition, geese provide down with exceptional loft. This provides high-end performance, combining warmth and great lightness.
Duvets filled with goose down therefore offer superior comfort. This performance combined with its rarity implies more expensive duvets than those made from duck down.
Duck down and goose down, what do they have in common?
These two raw materials both provide great performance to our duvets.
Down, whether from geese or ducks, keeps very well over time. Year after year, your duvets retain their thermal insulation and fineness qualities.
