Our silk duvets combine luxury and comfort, guaranteeing you peaceful and restful nights. Find out why silk is the ultimate choice for superior sleep.

Why choose a silk duvet?

Silk duvets have many advantages that make them exceptional:

  • Exceptional natural thermoregulation
The unique molecular structure of silk makes it an outstanding thermal regulator. It instantly adapts to your body temperature, creating an ideal microclimate around your body. In summer, it quickly releases excess heat to keep you cool. In winter, it retains body heat, wrapping you in a cozy cocoon. This adaptability makes the silk comforter a perfect choice for all seasons.
  • Optimal humidity management
After wool, silk is the natural fiber with the highest hygroscopic properties. Silk has a remarkable ability to absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without appearing wet. It effectively wicks away nighttime sweat, keeping your body dry and comfortable throughout the night. This property also helps regulate body temperature, contributing to deeper, more restful sleep.
  • Advanced hypoallergenic properties
Silk is naturally resistant to dust mites, mold and bacteria, making it the ideal choice for sensitive people with allergies or asthma. Its smooth surface provides no refuge for allergens, ensuring a healthier sleeping environment.
  • Exceptional durability and strength
Despite its apparent fineness, silk is one of the strongest natural fibers. Its spiral-shaped molecular structure gives it remarkable elasticity and resilience. A well-maintained silk duvet can retain its exceptional properties for many years, making it a wise investment for your long-term well-being.
  • Incomparable lightness
Silk duvets provide optimal warmth while remaining extraordinarily lightweight. This lightness allows freedom of movement while sleeping and avoids the feeling of crushing often associated with heavier duvets. You will feel enveloped in a nuage softness, promoting more peaceful and restorative sleep.

Which silk duvet to choose?

At Label Naturel we offer you the choice between two exceptional types of silk. So you will find on our site our oak silk duvets or Tussah and the duvets of the French leader Maison de la Soie which are made of mulberry silk. Discover the unique characteristics of each.

Oak silk or silk Tussah

  • Origin
Produced by the wild silkworm Antheraea pernyi, which feeds primarily on oak leaves.
  • Features
Since oak silk is produced by wild silkworms whose diet and living conditions in the wild are not controlled, it is generally composed of rather short and irregular fibers. On the other hand, its naturally golden color gives it a unique rustic charm.

Mulberry silk

  • Origin
From the Mulberry Bombyx (Bombyx mori), bred in captivity and fed exclusively on mulberry leaves.
  • Features
Recognized as the finest and most lustrous silk in the world. Its texture is incredibly smooth and its natural luster is incomparable. Mulberry silk is also very strong and durable, making it a perfect choice for high-quality bedding.

Oak silk and mulberry silk have the same exceptional natural properties. They differ by their origin and appearance. The mulberry silk duvet is the most resistant and durable. It is suitable for people wanting uncompromising sleeping comfort. The oak silk duvet, on the other hand, is ideal for those looking for a slightly denser and less expensive duvet.

How to Care for Your Silk Duvet

  • Regular ventilation
Expose your silk comforter to fresh air at least once a week. This simple practice helps remove built-up moisture and odors, while preserving the natural freshness of silk. Avoid direct exposure to sunlight which could weaken the fibers.
  • Washing
Silk duvets cannot be washed because silk fibers are self-cleaning. You just need to air them regularly. If you need to clean your duvet, choose professional dry cleaning to preserve the exceptional quality of your silk duvet. Choose a facility that specializes in handling delicate textiles and inform them that it is a pure silk comforter.
  • Optimal storage
When you are not using it, keep your duvet in its case provided by us. We advise you to store it in a cool, dry and well-ventilated place, away from the sun.
  • Daily protection
To preserve the exceptional properties of silk and guarantee excellent sleep hygiene, systematically use a duvet cover that you change regularly to minimize the accumulation of dust and perspiration on the duvet itself.

By following these care tips, your silk duvet Label Naturel will retain its exceptional properties for many years, providing you with superior quality sleep night after night.

Opt for a silk duvet Label Naturel, it's choosing excellence in sleep. How is silk useful for making quilts?

Silk duvets are interesting in more than one way:

With a significant moisture absorption capacity, up to 40% of its own weight, silk allows perspiration to wick away particularly well for people who sweat a lot at night.

Its thermoregulation capacity allows the duvet to adapt to the heat of the room and facilitates thermal exchange between the sleeper and the outside environment, avoiding the unpleasant feeling of suffocation that one can feel in summer and winter with other types of duvets.

Finally, because it is hypoallergenic and antibacterial, silk requires absolutely no treatment to remain healthy. Not very conducive to a mite infestation, silk allows you to sleep in a natural environment free of any chemicals.

How are our silk duvets made?

The filling of our silk duvets is entirely hand-made using ancestral methods with long silk fibers.

It is a tedious job which consists of stretching and crossing long silk fibers over a multitude of thicknesses in order to obtain fine silk "tablecloths". These are then superimposed on each other to obtain a thick and cozy silk carpet which will constitute the filling of the duvet.

This rug is then covered with its cotton cover, the whole being then held in place by a few circular stitching points a few centimeters in diameter distributed evenly over the entire surface of the duvet.

It is only at the cost of this long work that the silk filling can breathe and offer the best thermal regulation.

What types of silk are our duvets filled with?

Our silk duvets are filled with pure natural silk.

Oak silk, known as silk Tussah, is a silk of Indian origin from the cocoon of the butterfly Tussah (Antherae mylitta), wild silkworms not raised in sericulture. Silk is harvested after the silkworm, transformed into a butterfly, emerges from its cocoon.

Mulberry silk is produced in China by another butterfly, the Mulberry Bombyx (Bombyx Mori). It is the finest quality of silk.

In a very soft natural beige color, silk from Tussah is a little less smooth than mulberry silk and has a slightly more grainy texture with an incomparable natural charm. Mulberry silk is naturally ecru. It has a more silky and regular appearance.

Although they display some physical differences, they both have the particularity of being hard-wearing and durable. In addition to their shine, they are strong and easy to spin thanks to their long fibers.

These are therefore very popular natural materials for the manufacture of high-end bedding items because they do not pill and are very resistant to wear and friction. Their physiological qualities also make them an excellent filling, both warm and light, ideal for making luxury natural duvets and pillows.

Are oak silk and mulberry silk the same?

Yes ! Mulberry silk and oak silk are equal without it being possible to make a real hierarchy.

Their physiological qualities are identical, their covering power and their longevity too. The worms that produce them simply feed on the leaves of two different trees!

Because it is wild (because the silkworms that produce it are not raised in sericulture) oak silk only has a more rustic appearance than mulberry silk and is therefore very slightly cheaper. This slight price difference is also reflected in our sales prices.

How to care for a silk duvet?

As our duvets are made of 100% natural silk fibers, they lose their covering power over time. Ventilation several times a year is enough to evacuate accumulated humidity and restore their exceptional properties.

However, if you really need to wash them, we advise you to dry clean them exclusively. You can also opt for organic dry cleaning.

Under normal use, this duvet does not need more than one annual cleaning.
