Down Duvet Guide
How do you get down and feathers?
Down and feathers come from the refinement of duck or goose feathers. The finer and more refined the feather, the higher the swelling power and the more interesting the thermal properties. We therefore have in increasing order of refinement:
- the feather
- the feather
- semi-down
- the down
What percentage of down?
You will therefore find on our site:
- high-end duvets filled with 90% down in order to satisfy the most demanding,
- high quality duvets filled with at least 30% down new to allow all budgets to access our natural bedding.
Caution: if the proportion of down is not clearly indicated, it is because the proportion is lower and therefore the quality is poor!
Goose down or duck down?
New duvet or second-hand duvet?
What about animal protection?
So:
-
The down that fills our duvets, pillows and eiderdowns comes exclusively from ducks and geese which have led a healthy life, without stress or suffering and which have not been force-fed.
-
The plucking of live animals is also strictly prohibited, no animal being plucked live.
What weight to choose?
What is cuin?
Why is the envelope important?
What is the spacer?
How is the down that makes up the filling cleaned?
Is anti-mite treatment necessary?
Which labels should you trust?
- Certification Oeko-Tex Standard 100 guaranteeing that the finished product does not contain any substances harmful or of concern to human health. The more intense the contact with the skin, the stricter the criteria to be met in terms of human ecology.
- Certification GOTS which guarantees the 100% organic nature of the cotton used for the envelopes we use,
- The label RDS (Responsible Down Standard) is an international quality label defined for down which pays very particular attention to animal welfare: • The down comes exclusively from ducks and geese which have led a healthy life, without stress or suffering and which have not been force-fed, • The plucking of live animals is also strictly prohibited, • The production chain is subject to regular and independent controls, • The down is fully traceable, from the breeding farm to the finished product.
What is the right price for a down comforter?
Many customers surprised by the extremely high sales prices charged by some of our colleagues (and not the least) rightly question us about what could explain why our duvets are less expensive than those of the competition, fearing that this price difference is justified by products of lower quality.
The explanation is in fact to be found in the pricing policy of some of our competitors who literally ride on their image and reputation, claiming to impose crazy prices on their customers and on the natural bedding market.
Their selling prices and the margins charged are all the more insane as their only alibi is often a "French manufacture"... Justification that is all the lighter since French regulations make it possible to claim "made in France" as long as most of the product is assembled in France, whether the different components (envelope, filling, finishing bias, etc.) that make it up are manufactured on the other side of the planet or not!
For our down duvets, we have chosen to produce in Europe which we have entrusted to a factory specializing in the manufacture of natural bedding items for decades.
We have selected new high quality duck down certified GOTS and RDS and we have established manufacturing specifications guaranteeing our products and therefore our customers, manufacturing according to the rules of the art and meticulous finishing going well beyond market standards.
Our duvets are then only sold at the right price! No more, no less.
